Derek Snyder is from Owosso, MI, and has been racing about 17 years. His dad and grandpa raced, so Derek is the 3rd generation family member to be involved in the sport. He competed in Midget Sprints for the first few years, Quarter Midgets for several years, and moved up to full-size Sprint cars about 10 years ago. Derek now focuses his efforts exclusively on Winged, and occasionally Non-Winged Sprints, always competing with car #22. Winged Sprint cars are his favorite because they are faster, and have such a distinctive appearance. When he isn’t racing, Derek works as a biomedical engineer for Michigan State University, maintaining and repairing various types of medical equipment. He enjoys building/fabricating race cars, target shooting, and is an avid college football and basketball fan, rooting for MSU whenever they are playing.
