Mickey Maier is from Midland, and returned to racing 2-3 years ago after a 15 year hiatus. During his temporary “retirement” from racing, he coached baseball, hockey, and various travel teams when his kids were involved in those sports. Mickey’s dad, Tommy Maier, short track champion in the 70’s and 80’s and member of the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame, was a fierce competitor at the old Dixie Motor Speedway, and inspired his son to become a racer. Mickey participates in the Top Speed Modified competition, and also owns the car driven by a fellow racer in the Outlaw Super Late Model event. In the winter, Mickey races snowmobiles. He owns a salvage yard for motorized vehicles of all kinds. When he isn’t racing, Mickey spends time with his family, and attends his kids’ games and athletic events.
